Tummy Tuck with Dr. Walter Erhardt in Albany, Georgia
A tummy tuck, also referred to as abdominoplasty, is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures. A tummy tuck is designed to remove excess skin and fat from your midsection, while also restoring definition to your abdominal muscles.
Whether you've lost a significant amount of weight, you've gone through multiple pregnancies, or you've just carried around a little extra weight for as long as you can remember, you may want to consider tummy tuck surgery with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Walter Erhardt.
Benefits of Tummy Tuck Surgery
- A tummy tuck can target sagging, excess skin (usually on the lower abdomen)
- Separated or weakened abdominal muscles can be repaired and tightened (like an internal "corset")
- Unwanted pockets of excess fat can be removed through a tummy tuck (sometimes liposuction is necessary)
If you're at a healthy, stable weight, but still harbor excess skin or fat, you may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck. As a general rule, the best candidates are non-smokers who possess realistic expectations and have a thorough understanding of the risks associated with tummy tuck surgery.

Your consultation: In order to determine if you are good candidate for tummy tuck surgery, you will need to be honest and upfront about every aspect of your health. Your consultation will include a physical examination, as well as an in-depth discussion of your medical history and cosmetic goals. This information will help Dr. Erhardt determine if tummy tuck surgery is the best option available for you.
Surgery: Tummy tuck surgery takes 2-4 hours to complete and typically requires general anesthesia. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Erhardt will make the proper incisions. Through these incisions, he will remove excess tissue and tighten the underlying abdomen muscles to produce a firmer, flatter abdomen.
Sometimes liposuction is employed to remove excess fat. Your skin will then be tightly re-draped to your newly contoured abdominal wall. Incisions will be secured with sutures.
Healing time: Ensuring that you have a safe and comfortable recovery is one of Dr. Erhardt's primary goals. Your midsection will feel tender and sore for the first several days. Bruising and swelling will be present for several weeks.
Dr. Erhardt will provide you will pain medication as well as a compression garment to manage discomfort. Most patients require 1-2 weeks of rest. More strenuous activities should be avoided for at least a month
Expected ResultsYour final results may not be apparent for several weeks. Your abdomen will need time to heal and adjust from surgery. Following a full recovery, you can anticipate a firmer, flatter tummy. The final results will be more or less permanent as long as you maintain a stable weight. It is important to note that there will be permanent scarring. The length of your incisions will depend on the extent of your tummy tuck.
