Nose Surgery with Dr. Walter Erhardt in Albany, Georgia
Nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, is a procedure used to enhance the appearance of the nose or improve its function. As the focal point of the face, changes to the nose can have a powerful effect on the overall balance of your face, even with minor adjustments.
Whether you're experiencing breathing problems or you've just been unhappy with your nose for as long as you can remember, Dr. Erhardt can help. He would be happy to discuss the details of rhinoplasty with you during a one-on-one consultation.
Benefits of Nose Surgery
- Nose surgery can balance the nose with the rest of the face through a variety of size and shape adjustments.
- Undesirable structural problems such as a hook or bump can be corrected.
- It can also treat functional abnormalities that may cause breathing problems such as a deviated septum.
Though many young people consider rhinoplasty, it’s important to wait until the nose has fully developed before undergoing surgery. Boys and girls 15 years of age or older may be appropriate candidates for rhinoplasty. Dr. Erhardt can determine if you are a candidate for rhinoplasty during a one-on-one consultation.
How Nose Surgery Works
Your consultation: During your consultation, it's important to be honest and upfront about your medical history, cosmetic expectations and recovery goals. Your consultation will begin with a physical exam, followed by an in-depth discussion of nose surgery. You will also have the opportunity to view Dr. Erhardt's gallery of before and after patient photos.
Surgery: Nose surgery is an outpatient procedure that requires either general or local anesthesia combined with sedation. Dr. Erhardt will begin by making incisions within your nostrils. In more complicated surgeries, incisions will be made at the base of your nose. He will then separate the skin from the underlying soft cartilage and bone. With the help of specialized tools, Dr. Erhardt will reshape or augment the underlying structures of your nose.
Healing time: When you wake up from surgery, your face will feel puffy and swollen. Your nose may ache and you may have a dull headache. You should plan to spend the first few days of recovery in bed with your head elevated. Bruising should resolve in 1-2 weeks, while swelling will gradually subside over the course of several months. You can return to your normal routine in 10-14 days, but your nose should be protected from impact and sun exposure for several months.
Expected Results: The level of improvement you can expect varies. Most patients are very satisfied with the results they achieve through rhinoplasty. Very small changes can make a significant difference in your overall appearance. Following a full recovery, your nose will appear more in balance with the surrounding features of your face.
