Facial Implants with Dr. Walter Erhardt in Albany, Georgia
Are you bothered by a weak chin, undefined jaw line or lack of facial contour? Facial implants can bring a harmonious balance to the underlying framework of your face. Through strategic placement, facial implants can accentuate the areas of the cheek, chin or lower jaw.
If you're considering facial implants, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Walter Erhardt would be happy to meet with you to discuss the details in depth.
Benefits of Facial Implants
- During the natural aging process, the face may begin to lose some of its vitality. Facial implants may be elected to fill out a face that appears "hollow" or tired.
- Facial implants can be used to strengthen a weak jaw line or bring the chin or cheekbones into balance with the rest of your facial features.
- Congenital defects, abnormal facial structures and facial trauma may also be corrected with facial implants.
- Facial implants can be performed alongside other facial rejuvenation procedures such as rhinoplasty.
Ideal candidates for facial implant surgery are healthy and possess realistic expectations. The best way to determine if facial implants are right for you is to schedule a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Erhardt.
How Facial Implant Surgery Works
Your consultation: During your consultation, it's important to be honest and upfront about your medical history, cosmetic expectations and recovery goals. Your consultation will begin with a physical exam, followed by an in-depth discussion of facial implant surgery. You will also have the opportunity to view Dr. Erhardt's gallery of before and after patient photos.
Surgery: Facial implants are made of biocompatible silicone and custom-sized for your bone structure. Surgery can be performed using general anesthesia or intravenous sedation and is generally completed in 1-2 hours. Chin and lower jaw implants are inserted through an incision made inside of the mouth, near the lower lip, or externally under the chin, while cheek implants are inserted through incisions made inside of the mouth near the upper lip or externally through the lower eyelid.
Healing time: Ensuring that you have a safe and smooth recovery is one of Dr. Erhardt's primary goals. Following surgery, it is likely that you will experience some discomfort, bruising and swelling. This discomfort can be effectively managed with prescription pain medication. Normal activities can be resumed in about a week, although the implant area should be protected from impact for the next 4-6 weeks.
Expected Results:The final results of your surgery will become gradually apparent as bruising and swelling resolve over the course of a few weeks. Facial implants can provide better symmetry, fuller features and a more balanced appearance. If you're recovering from an accident or trauma, implants can restore the original appearance of your face, helping you recover both physically and psychologically.
