Cheek Augmentation with Dr. Walter Erhardt in Albany, Georgia
Cheek augmentation is a cosmetic procedure performed to enhance the cheeks using injectable fillers or surgical cheek implants. Filling out the cheeks may reverse hollow or sunken cheeks that can develop over time as a result of aging, disease or hereditary traits.
If you're ready to rejuvenate your look, Dr. Erhardt can help. Dr. Erhardt is a board- certified plastic surgeon specializing in a variety of facial rejuvenation procedures including cheek augmentation.
Benefits of Cheek Augmentation
- By adding volume to your cheeks, cheek augmentation can give your facial features more balance.
- More prominent cheeks can also give your face a more contoured appearance.
- Loose skin under the eyes and around the cheeks will be tighter and firmer following cheek implants.
Cheek augmentation may be used to rejuvenate hollow or sunken cheeks or restore facial balance. The best candidates are healthy, possess realistic expectations and do not smoke. Dr. Erhardt will be able to determine if cheek augmentation is right for you following an in-house consultation.
How Cheek Augmentation Works
Your consultation: During your consultation, it's important to be honest and upfront about your medical history, cosmetic expectations and recovery goals. Your consultation will begin with a physical exam, followed by an in-depth discussion of brow lift surgery. You will also have the opportunity to view Dr. Erhardt's gallery of before and after patient photos.
Injections: Cheek augmentation using injections is a fairly straightforward procedure. Your face will be cleansed with an antiseptic. Using a fine needle Dr. Erhardt will inject dermal filler beneath the surface of your skin. The entire process takes less than 30 minutes.
Implants: Cheek implant surgery is typically performed under general or twilight anesthesia. Incisions are made within the mouth along the gum line or within the lower eyelid. A pocket is formed on each cheek bone and a biocompatible implant is secured in place. Incisions are then closed using dissolvable sutures. The implant procedure takes 30-45 minutes.
Healing Time: For injectable fillers, there is little to no recovery period. You can resume normal activities immediately. When recovering from implant surgery, it will be helpful to keep your head elevated to minimize swelling. It may also be necessary to eat soft foods for the first few days. Normal activities can be resumed in about a week, although the implant area should be protected from impact for the next 4-6 weeks.
Expected Results: The final results of your surgery will gradually become apparent as bruising and swelling resolve over the course of a few weeks. Cheek augmentation can provide better symmetry, fuller features and a more balanced appearance. It is important to note that cheek augmentation using dermal fillers will require routine treatments to maintain results. Cheek implant surgery, on the other hand, can give you permanent results.
